- Objectives:
To know the main international environmental standards and regulations in the European Community. To describe the principal characteristics of some forestry activities and industries that are usually subject to environmental impact assessment. To identify the environmental impacts of forestry activities and propose remedial measures.
- Programme topics:
- Introduction to the international environmental standards and regulations in the European Community.
- Forestry activities: reforestation, logging, river rehabilitation, forest roads. Principal characteristics, environmental impacts and remedial measures.
- Forestry industries: sawmills, cork oak, pulp and paper. Principal characteristics, environmental impacts and remedial measures.
- Assessment:
Course requirements include the presentation of individual and team work in class (70%), and a final exam (30%).
