1. Objectives
   To know basic elements and methods of forest biotechnology and to gain familiarity with techniques and technologies currently being used and with the potential of biotechnology for Mediterranean forest tree improvement.
    
2. Programme topics
   The class and lab. activities lectures will be focused on the following groups of topics/abilities:
   1. In vitro culture of Mediterranean forest trees
   2. Methods of genetic transformation of forest trees
   3. Applications of recombinant DNA technology for the improvement of Mediterranean forest trees
   4. Molecular markers and Marker Assisted Selection
       
3. Assessment
   Course requirements include laboratory exercises and a final oral examination. A mid-term written test will be offer to the students who prefer an intermediate evaluation.
