The first year MEDfOR Student Catherine Mercer attended the Southern European Regional Meeting of the International Forestry Students Association 2019.

The meeting took place from the 10th  the 18th of May 2019 on Switzerland

On her own words:

"The Southern European Regional Meeting of the International Forestry Students Association 2019, hosted by the ETH Zurich, was a fantastic experience. During the 8 days of the event we travelled right around Switzerland, looking at a variety of forest types and their different functions. I met some amazing people from different countries, and sampled local dishes, including Raclette! My favourite part of the trip was viewing the Aletsch Glacier, which is the longest glacier in the Alps. Due to climate change, however, the Aletsch Glacier is rapidly retreating and is expected to almost entirely disappear by 2100. This glacial retreat is a clear example of the effect that climate change is having on mountain environments.”
