We are proud to share the incredible journey of Dr. Zelalem Mengiste Taye, a distinguished alumnus of the MEDfOR Erasmus Mundus Program (2012-2014). Originally from Ethiopia, Zelalem pursued his master’s studies at the University of Lleida (Spain) and University of Tuscia (Italy) before embarking on a remarkable academic and research career.

Today, he is making waves as a jointly appointed Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia (UBC), contributing to both the Faculty of Forestry and the Faculty of Land and Food Systems. His research focuses on plant and soil microbiomes, sustainability solutions, and ecosystem resilience.

Dr. Taye's journey—from his early days in Harar, Ethiopia, to becoming a leading scientist in plant-microbe interactions—serves as an inspiration to aspiring scholars worldwide. His dedication to addressing global environmental challenges through interdisciplinary research truly reflects the values of the MEDfOR program.
